The Azure Damselfly, although common may be far more localised than the Common Blue with which it is most likely to be confused.
Once a breeding site has been located they can be seen in quite large numbers often associating with other blue damselfles.
Identification is best made from examining the markings on the abdomen, all species of damselfly having a unique pattern.
The Azure Damselfly exhibits an elongated "U" shape. It also has thinner blue stripes on the top of its back.
The female is much darker & can be seen in blue & green forms.
It can be seen on the wing from mid May right through to early to mid August.
