This is perhaps one of the more slender and delicate members of the damselfly family.
It is easily identified by the distinct blue tail segments, it can only be confused with the far rarer Scarse Blue Tailed Damselfly.
It is very widespread & common through out the United Kingdom & can be seen in varied habitats including still & slow flowing waters.
It may be seen on the wing from late April until late August and into September, often in the company of the other blue damselfly species.
Males exhibit a blue body and tail, females are of a more slender build and have a duller lilac or olive colouring and a blue form that is very like the male.
