Broad Bodied Chaser

This Chaser is one of the first dragonflies of the year to be seen on the wing. In a mild spring it may be seen from mid April through to late July.

It is a common sight in the southern half of the UK & it frequents many stillwaters from lakes & ponds to small pools and seepages.

This species is a mid sized dragonfly & has a sturdy appearance & flight. Its name comes from the width of its abdomen.

Early specimens have a vivid yellow coloring which fades with age. The abdomen of the male gradually turning to a fine powder blue.

This dragonflies flight is generally short in duration and they will frequently return to the same perch & bask in the sunshine.
