Club Tailed Dragonfly

This is a river species of dragonfly which is generally found on slow slowing waters.

They may be seen on the wing from early to mid May until the end of June, possibly early July.

It is not a widespread species & can be quite localised, but once a suitable breeding site is located they can be seen in some numbers.

On a warm day in May you may encounter an emergence where they can be approached with some ease.

Mature specimens are far less obliging & are quite difficult to find in my experience.

Immature specimens are yellow, as are the females; however the males exhibit a green colouring but to date I have yet to see one.
