Four Spotted Chaser

This is an early season dragonfly which can be seen in flight between early May and August; occasionally into early September.

It is easily identified by its vivid colouring and from the 4 spots; one located centrally on the front edge of each wing.

This is a sturdy mid sized dragonfly which can be seen around all manner of stillwaters.
This chaser is common and has a widespread distribution over the UK.

It may be observed in quite large numbers & is often seen perching on low vegetation and in particular, the dead stems from previous seasons.

If disturbed its flight will usually be short in duration and they will settle again nearby.
