Migrant Hawker

As its name suggests this small hawker was once a rare visitor to the United Kingdom; however it is now one of the most common hawkers in the south of the country & it is expanding north west-wards.

This is a late season dragonfly and can be seen in flight in late July right through to early October.

The Migrant Hawker is often seen in quite large numbers & many males can share the same stretch of bank, although females tend to be a rarer sight.

This species seems to spend a lot less time in flight compared to other hawkers.

They will tolerate the cameras presence to a greater degree than other hawkers & some close ups are possible.
